Zemun, on Gardoš
Dear reader,
The tower on Gardoš was completed in 1896, marking a thousand years since the Hungarians settled the Pannonian plain. It stands on the hill above Zemun, over the Danube, and is now one of Belgrade’s recognisable outlines.
The society takes its name. We research the traces of Hungarian culture and tradition in Belgrade, organise cultural events, and work on economic and cultural cooperation between Serbia and Hungary, in both directions.
When the society was founded we set down seven aims. Here they are, in the order they were published:
- Research into the legacy of Hungarian culture and tradition in the city of Belgrade
- Promotion of Hungarian–Serbian economic and cultural cooperation
- Organisation of cultural events
- Participation in European projects
- Publication of research results from the society’s fields of activity
- Organisation of summer education programmes
- Cooperation with Serbian cultural institutions in Hungary
