The first university chess meeting, Budapest

After lengthy preparation, and on the initiative of a Hungarian civil organisation in Serbia, the Hungarian University and College Sports Federation (MEFS), the BEAC chess section and the Hungarian Chess Federation hosted four university chess players and four officials from Serbia between 12 and 14 November 2010.

The guests were received at the MEFS office by Dr Csaba Hédi and György Kovács. The matches were played at the Hungarian Chess Federation’s headquarters, which also hosted the Hungarian university championship, and the Serbian side played the winners of that championship.

The visit closed with an agreement on a return match: in the spring, Belgrade would host four Hungarian players and four officials.

The agreement held. Out of it grew the series of university team meetings that has run since 2010, in recent years twice a year: once in Belgrade, once in Budapest.
